PIKE CHARACIN
It is found in a variety of habitats including coastal lagoons, rivers, lakes and swamps. It usually hunts amongst marginal vegetation, but in areas where the Tigerfish species Hydrocynus forskahlii is absent (a predator of H. odoe). Adult fish tend to inhabit slow-moving areas of deeper water.

Distribution
Acestrorhynchus ("needle jaw") is a genus of 14 species of characiform fish found only in fresh water in South America, the sole genus in the family Acestrorhynchidae. Their greatest diversity is in the Orinoco and Amazon basins. They are found in a variety of habitats, but primarily live in lakes, lagoons and areas near shore. The smallest species of this fish are especially found in small streams (igarapés) of the Amazon basin
These fish have elongated pike-like bodies and large conical teeth, adapted for predation on other types of fish. They are sometimes referred to as freshwater barracudas in the aquarium trade, although the name is used to refer to other characins, as well.
Common names are:
cachorinho, cachorro, pez cachorro, pez zorro, pike characin, freshwater barracuda and dientudo.

The Brazilian Barracuda
The Bicuda or the Amazon Version of the Barracuda, this mean little fish is a great fighter and will hit all lures if in the area. Keep your finger out of its mouth and away, it will turn and bite you as it has many time happened to myself. Luckily they aren't as bad as the Traira with all its bad bacteria in its mouth.
Little is known about these fish, even though they are frequently sold in aquarium stores.Acestrorhynchus nasutus is distinguishable from Acestrorhynchus falcatus by its more slender body and the absence of a black spot behind the gill cover. This species is often referred to as a "Freshwater Barracuda" because of its body form, not because of any relationship to the true marine Barracuda. An important food fish in South America.
